Care and Maintenance
Marcello Hardwood Flooring is finished with penetrating hardening oil that is designed to protect the floor without a top surface film. These floors require cleaning products that are designed for oiled hardwood floors.
Here are some DO’s and DON’TS
- Don’t use tape of any kind on the floor during installation. Tape can leave a slight residue that can be seen after the tape has been removed.
- Don’t allow Drywall dust to settle into the new floor. If additional sheetrock / wall board work needs to be performed, the floor needs to be covered. Fine drywall dust is extremely difficult to remove from the wire brushed finish and can cause permanent damage to your floor.
- Don’t use vinegar, wax, polish, abrasive cleaners, or any other non WOCA brand product to clean your oil finished floor.
DO’s
- Always Sweep or Vacuum your floor first to remove any loose dirt.
- After installation and for regular cleaning, mop with WOCA Soap Natural or WOCA Soap White for white oiled
floors. The WOCA Soap is a concentrate and is mixed 1:40 with water or 3 oz of WOCA Soap per 1 gallon of water. The WOCA Soap cleans the floor and also nourishes leaving a thin layer of coconut and soy fats. Cleaning with WOCA Soap (up to once weekly) will extend the time before re-oiling becomes necessary and will help prevent against staining and water spotting.
- When cleaning, use a cotton mop (not micro fiber). Use a second rinse bucket of clean water to remove dirt from the mop before re-soaking it in the cleaning solution. Change the rinse bucket water frequently. For a short video click on https://vimeo.com/29274965.
- For spot cleaning, use WOCA Soap in Spray Natural or WOCA Soap in Spray White for white oiled floors. This product is premixed for immediate use.
- For more difficult stains, use WOCA Spot Remover.
- 2 times per year, clean with WOCA Oil Refresher Natural or WOCA Oil Refresher White for white oiled floors.
This will introduce a small amount of oil to freshen the finish and extend the time before re-oiling becomes necessary. WOCA Oil Refresher is a concentrated product. It is used in a 1:20 ratio. (6 oz of Oil Refresher per 1 gallon of water)
- Light scratches are best repaired by hand rubbing WOCA Master Floor Oil Natural, WOCA Master Floor Oil White, or a WOCA Master Color Oil on the affected area using a cloth. Leave the oil to absorb for a short period of time before thoroughly removing the oil from the surface of the floor.
Periodically, the floor will need to be re-oiled. This is done using the floor prep WOCA Wood Cleaner and then re-oiled using WOCA Maintenance Oil. This can be done only in areas of the floor that are exposed to wear and tear.
